With it being award season and all, it only makes sense that one of the most iconic music magazines would step up their game. We also have a little convenience coming your way with one of our favorite Slurpee dispensing convenient store rebranding in Sweden.

Ok so Billboard has been around for much longer than I have been alive. It has established itself as the industry standard for charts and even has their own awards show for musicians. First published in 1894 the weekly magazine has since converted to entirely just a music publication (1961). Not that their new image is all that much different, but it does stand out as a bit more “bold” of a look. Yes I’m ridiculous I know! Though you cannot read a physical magazine the new mark definitely works well on the web!

You will not be seeing the next brand update, unless you will be visiting Sweden some time soon. 7-Eleven has rolled out a new look that will be featured on coffee cups, sugar packages, and bags, but only in the first European country to have a 7-Eleven. The new look definitely takes me back to my childhood when seeing the 7-Eleven signs with a retro-chic look. Though it is being called a blast from the past look it is strangely modern in appearance. Have a look for yourself!

I cant say that I’m a huge fan of the look as it is very challenging to actually see the 7 inside all of the lines, but I do greatly appreciate the design for being a totally different look yet strangely similar!

So I was asked to create some wedding programs for a friend and I figured that I should come up with an identity for the couple first. We have made a few adjustments to the one with the C&J and that is the one that will be featured on their programs.

Look to the skis! Their is a new metal bird up there. Well not so much as being new as looking a bit different. We all know American Airlines for their plane Jane double A logo with the eagle centered between the two letters. They have been sporting this look for the past 75 years though it has evolved a bit.

The new image really speaks for itself. It is definitely my favorite rebrand of the year thus far. With such a simplicity in design the new American Airlines mark kicks butt! With such a minimalistic appeal, the mark reads as so many iconic images that are American. A star, eagle, runway, “A”, and a wing are some that I have picked up on. The new look is definitely something that will be seen internationally and immediately recognized as American!

My only place of dislike is the way that they are planning on incorporating the new logo onto their fleet of jets. Sticking with a minimal look would be ideal and I think that the company started in that direction. They did fall short however. The tail of the planes are atrocious! I understand the intent, but to cover the whole back end of the plane in a flag just doesn’t do it for me. I think this definitely could have been executed in a much classier manner. Take a look for yourself.

Ok so not a whole lot going on in the identity world this week so I have to pull from something that I missed last week. So for the past 10 years food network has been rocking pretty much the same logo. If its not broken don’t fix it!

Pretty standard decent mark. Good flow solid typeface. We have grown to really know and recognize their mark. Afterall it seems to be on the internet, TV, grocery store, DVDs, basically its everywhere! The food network has been making a difference in lives of chefs all over the world. Taking what was once an overlooked profession to something that people seek out. Now of course not every chef will make it to food network for one of their reality shows, nor will they even get the opportunity to have their own show.

The new mark is still sticking with the familiar. A slight face-lift was exactly what they needed. Bringing them out of the 2000s and into the current! With everything looking shiny and new and the fact that the is primarily a digital brand more than a print icon the new look makes sense.

You can see that the typeface is a bit different and the type is resting on a 3d circle instead of the flat vector based mark. The addition of the frame around the mark definitely solidifies the image and makes it have a finished look.
